I first saw the band in 1989 and it is very rare that I listen to a post-1976 show.

Subjective interpretation indeed.

Hell, Lobster and others in another thread just stated that, TO THEM, Pig-less shows are best. Well, well, well.....

my first show was 12/31/1980.

As far as the 80's & 90's go, I only listen to shows I attended as they are the only ones that get me excited, ones where I can re-live the memory. There are about a dozen or so that I can listen to back-to-back with the early stuff and not be overly critical.

Right now I'm in a huge '68-69 groove, man I love those sounds. I can listen to any of it and dig it. The Dark Stars, 11's and TOOs just scream. Right now I really like the two drummer raw ripping sound.

It is just so cool to have 10 favorite bands...and they're all the same band.

agreed, (and with respect to Mando), i never understood why some folks think that one automatically prefers the era of the band based on when one saw them live; bizarre thinking if you ask me; like you flow, i never saw the GD until the '80s but it's a rare day indeed for me that will catch me listening to anything after the early '70s

Good point - my main years for seeing the band was '76-'79, and '68 and '72 are probably my favorite years. If I'm not listening to an 84 show for this effort, either 68 or 72 is streaming with the occasional exception being a show discussed in the threads - like the 8/6/71 AUD that popped up in a thread today.

I'd like to amend my above post to:

"Someone who saw the band for the first time in the '90s may enjoy their era of the Grateful Dead just as much as those who saw them in '68 or '72. Others may prefer other years over the years they saw them. Others may like Justin Bieber and their opinion on anything isn't worth a half-full, bent shit-can."**

** With all the offense to Justin Bieber fans as I can muster.
